Israeli Army Reports Reservist Death as Soldier Suicides Rise
The reservist was discovered dead Monday in central Israel, while military police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The army has not established whether the incident was a suicide. However, reports noted that the case comes amid several similar incidents involving reserve soldiers who have died by suicide in recent months.
Earlier this month, a 46-year-old reserve soldier was found dead in Kiryat Malakhi in southern Israel, with a weapon reportedly discovered nearby.
Another soldier was found dead at a military base in southern Israel in August, according to reports.
That same month, a 24-year-old reserve staff sergeant from Karmiel in northern Israel died by suicide while he was not on active duty. The military indicated that his death may have been connected to his service.
Previous reporting has indicated that the number of suicides among Israeli soldiers during or following military service has been increasing, reversing a downward trend recorded during the decade preceding the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
