French Journalist Gets Expelled from Israel

(MENAFN) Israel on Thursday refused entry to French reporter Alice Froussard and sent her back to Paris, citing her outspoken criticism of Israel’s ongoing two year military campaign in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Communications Minister Amichai Chikli announced on the US social media platform X that Froussard was departing Ben Gurion Airport and returning to France. He wrote: “I am pleased to announce that Alice Froussard, the pro-Hamas French journalist who believes the Oct. 7 massacre should be viewed in context, is leaving Ben Gurion Airport on her way back to Paris.”

According to a media outlet, the Foreign Ministry explained that Froussard had arrived in Israel on Thursday for professional purposes but was halted and placed on a flight back to France.

Officials alleged that investigators uncovered remarks from her considered antagonistic toward Israel, including describing Israeli military actions in Gaza as a “massacre,” accusing Israel of apartheid, and allegedly rationalizing the Oct. 7, 2023 events.

Froussard has not yet issued any public statement regarding her deportation or the accusations against her.

The media outlet reported that Froussard has lived and worked in Jerusalem and Ramallah for the past six years. During this time, she contributed to several French outlets such as Radio France Internationale (RFI), France Culture, Le Figaro, TV5 Monde, and Mediapart.
