Tucker Carlson Claims Brief Detention at Israeli Airport

(MENAFN) US journalist and podcaster Tucker Carlson said he was briefly detained at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv on Wednesday after conducting an interview with the American ambassador to Israel. Carlson, known for his criticism of US support for Israel, said airport officials took his passport and escorted his executive producer to a side room for questioning.

“Men who identified themselves as airport security took our passports, hauled our executive producer into a side room and then demanded to know what we spoke to Ambassador Huckabee about,” Carlson said. “It was bizarre. We’re now out of the country,” he added.

The US Embassy in Israel denied that Carlson was detained, stating that he was subjected to standard security procedures. The ambassador noted that all visitors entering and leaving Israel routinely undergo passport checks and security questioning.

Carlson reportedly remained inside the airport during his visit and conducted the interview there. Israeli authorities had considered blocking his entry but ultimately allowed him in to avoid potential diplomatic tensions.

Historically, Israel has restricted entry for US politicians and activists critical of its policies, including barring Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib in 2019. Carlson has previously criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza and alleged that US officials act in line with pro-Israel interests. He has also faced criticism from Jewish rights groups for promoting conspiracy theories and hosting far-right activist Nick Fuentes on his podcast.
