Israeli Strikes Kill Palestinians in Gaza

(MENAFN) At least eight Palestinians, including a child, were killed and several others injured early Wednesday when Israeli attacks hit displacement tents, a residential home, and a civilian gathering in the Gaza Strip, medical officials reported, even though a ceasefire is officially in place in the territory.

Medical sources told a news agency that the bodies of the eight Palestinians, along with numerous wounded individuals, were brought to hospitals across Gaza following the bombardment.

Eyewitnesses informed the news agency that the strikes specifically targeted tents sheltering displaced families in Khan Younis, located in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

The shelling also struck a house in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood east of Gaza City, as well as a street in the Al-Zeitoun district, the witnesses added.

According to the Israeli Army, an Israeli reserve officer sustained “serious injuries” during the attacks and was hospitalized.

The breaches of the ceasefire persist despite the U.S. administration’s statement in January that the second phase of the ceasefire had commenced.

This phase includes additional Israeli withdrawals from Gaza and the initiation of reconstruction projects, which the United Nations estimates will cost approximately $70 billion.

The ceasefire had brought a halt to an Israeli military campaign that began in October 2023. That offensive lasted two years, resulting in more than 71,000 Palestinian deaths, over 171,000 injuries, and the destruction of roughly 90% of Gaza’s infrastructure.
