Israel Faces Budget Clash Over Military Spending
As reported by an Israeli newspaper on Sunday, tensions have escalated between the Defense Ministry, the Israel Defense Forces, and the Finance Ministry over the provision of funds deemed vital for restoring military gear and ammunition.
“The Defense Ministry is asking for an addition of 60 billion shekels to its budget to pay for the war against Iran and the latest offensive on Gaza, both military operations that were not included in the 2025 budget bill,” stated the publication.
Authorities within the Finance Ministry are pushing back against the request, pointing to apprehensions over the escalating expenses linked to the deployment of reserve units and the swelling defense budget.
High-ranking defense personnel have voiced discontent, alleging that the Finance Ministry has delayed releasing funds that were already sanctioned by a collaborative defense panel.
This delay, they argue, is obstructing the armed forces’ efforts to obtain essential assets, such as Arrow missile defense systems and armored carriers for ground forces stationed in Gaza.
“What can you do when the military needs the reserve force more than originally planned?” remarked Israeli officials, stressing that the ground operation in Gaza was not foreseen in the initial financial plan and has required a broader activation of reserve units, along with supplementary aid from the Home Front Command.
